Nine minutes to go on day 20 of being twenty. I feel like I should make a wish.
2017 was a crazy year for me, and looking forward, the beginning of 2018 is chock full of just as much transition. I rang in the new year with some awesome family time, but I also realized how ready I am to gain some distance. Not just from family, but also from my hometown and this comfort zone.
I recently read an article about how trying to do just one thing that’s challenging helps create personal growth. Hopefully that’s true, because I have set quite a few challenges for myself this new year.
New Year’s resolutions aren’t what I would call the goals I’ve made recently, but the theme is the same. Big changes after a fresh start.
To wrap up the old before starting the new, I got in some great family time over the holidays. I talked, laughed, and was frustrated with everyone, parents, siblings, and extended family alike.
Family is hugely important to me, but this transition time, between schools, states, and life stages, has been hard on my relationships. Getting ready to leave the nest, by a lot, wreaks havoc on my moods and ability to coexist with the people I love most.
To wrap up the day, I needed to write about some of my conflicted thoughts, but mainly I’m excited to start fresh in 2018.
Happy New Year everyone!
